Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front lies over central NSW with a band of rain to its east. The front and rainband will move slowly east today clearing the southeast this morning and the northeast later in the day. Colder, gusty westerly winds will follow the front, these winds will strengthen over eastern NSW tonight as low pressure system deepens and passes to the south of the state. The low is expected to move rapidly further southeast over the Southern Tasman Sea later Saturday and Sunday as a high pressure system in the Bight gradually extends a ridge over NSW. The high should intensify and move slowly east during the early part of the new week, being the major influence on the weather over NSW.
Forecast for the rest of FridayRain areas in the northeast and about central parts of the ranges and coast, contracting to the northeast by the afternoon, then clearing. Scattered showers over the southern inland, tending widespread about the western slopes of the ranges, with possible thunder and small hail. Snow on the Alps lowering to about the 1000 metre level and snow likely above 1200 metres on western parts of the Central Tablelands later. Isolated showers about the central inland and on the south coast. Fine and mostly sunny in the northwest. A cold day for the central and southern inland. North to northwest winds turning fresh to strong and gusty westerly, locally reaching gale force about the southeast this evening.Saturday 26 MayIsolated showers over the southern inland, tending widespread near the western slopes of the ranges. Snow on the southern ranges to about 1000 metres, retreating to higher levels during the day. Possible isolated showers about the far south coast and over the far southwest. Fine for the remainder. Cool to cold, fresh and gusty west to southwesterly winds, strong in the east and locally gale force in the southeast but easing later.Sunday 27 MayIsolated showers on coastal districts and far southern ranges, more likely in the Port Stephens area. Southwest to southerly winds.Monday 28 MayIsolated coastal showers, clearing from the south, more likely in the Port Stephens area. Southwest to southeasterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Friday.Product IDN10031
