MELBOURNE - May 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will enter western Victoria tonight, weakening as it crosses southern parts of the State on Thursday morning. A low pressure system will then develop over northwestern Victoria during Thursday as an upper level trough approaches the west. The low will move southeast through central Victoria on Friday morning and should be situated east of Tasmania by Friday night. The low will deepen as it tracks across the south Tasman Sea on Saturday and a high pressure system will move over Bight waters on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers about the southwest. Fine over the remainder. Mild with fresh northwest to northerly wind, stronger in southern and elevated areas, tending southwesterly in the far southwest.Thursday 24 MayIsolated to scattered showers in the south. Patchy rain developing in the north during the afternoon and increasing in the evening. Northerly winds at first over central and eastern regions, strong on the mountains but moderating during the morning. Southwest to southerly winds developing across the west early in the morning and spreading to central areas by the afternoon. Winds generally turning east to southeasterly late in the day. A cool to mild day with cloud increasing.Friday 25 MayRain areas, locally heavy in the west and on the northern slopes of the divide but only patchy rainfall reaching Gippsland. Snowfalls developing on the mountains above 1100 metres. Cool in the east with moderate to fresh north to northeast winds. Colder in the west with southeast to southwesterly winds freshening.Saturday 26 MayRain areas over central and eastern districts, easing to showers. Showers becoming isolated over the northwest. Snowfalls contracting from 1200 metres to above 1600 metres. Fresh to strong west to southwest winds extending throughout and strengthening to gale force on the Gippsland coast.Sunday 27 MayScattered showers in southern and mountain areas and isolated showers possible in most northern regions. snowshowers above 1300 metres. Local early frosts in the north.
