Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front approaching Tasmania will slip away to the southeast overnight, while a stronger cold front will move across southwestern Victoria Wednesday afternoon and reach the northwest and southern central areas by late evening. A broad low pressure system will then develop over northwestern Victoria during Thursday as an upper level trough approaches the west. The low will move southeast and intensify just east of Gippsland on Friday and continue to deepen before moving away to the southeast later Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayCloudy in the south and southwest with isolated showers, mainly in the southwest and clearing from western and central areas at night. Clear in the far north. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds, strengthening in the southwest and about the ranges at night.Wednesday 23 MayIsolated showers about the western and central ranges, contracting to the far southwest early in the morning. Areas of rain developing from the southwest from midday, extending northeastwards to reach the northwest inland and west Gippsland areas at night. Remaining fine in the east. A mild day with a fresh and gusty northwesterly wind, becoming strong and squally about the ranges and in the south and shifting colder west to southwesterly in the southwest later in the day.Thursday 24 MayAreas of rain easing to showers across the southwest during the morning, but rain developing across the northeast towards the evening. Isolated showers elsewhere, tending scattered in the west with the risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Snow on the ranges down to 1100 metres in the west and about the Alpine peaks in the east. Cool to mild with moderate southwest to southeast winds in the south and west and northeast winds in the northeast.Friday 25 MayRain across central and eastern areas with local heavy falls possible about the northeast ranges and across Gippsland. Chiefly scattered showers in the west. Snow on the ranges above 1300 metres. Cold with fresh southeast to southwest winds, becoming strong and squally about the southeast and possible reaching gale force.Saturday 26 MayRain across central and eastern areas, contracting to east Gippsland during the day. Further heavy falls possible for Gippsland. Scattered showers elsewhere in the south and isolated showers across the northwest. Snow on the ranges above 1300 metres. Cold with fresh to strong and squally southwest winds, reaching gale force at first about the Gippsland coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
