MELBOURNE - May 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure ridge lies across the state. A cold front from the Southern Ocean is forecast to reach western parts of New South Wales on Wednesday, before a low develops over the state in response to an upper-level trough on Thursday. The positioning of this system is currently uncertain, but it is expected to bring rain to most districts as it moves east during Thursday and Friday, with the majority of the rainfall expected from the slopes and plains, through to the coast. The low pressure system is expected to move away over the ocean by early next week. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers clearing from the far northern coast. Otherwise fine. Light and variable winds, becoming west to northwesterly across the south.Wednesday 23 MayMorning fog patches, mainly on the northern ranges and slopes. Early frosts on the tablelands. Isolated showers in the northeast, most likely on the coast north of Coffs Harbour. Otherwise fine, with cloud increasing in the southwest later. Light to moderate north to northwest winds.Thursday 24 MayAreas of rain developing over the northern slopes and plains, extending to the Upper Hunter during the day. Patchy rain extending into the southeast later. Isolated showers in the west. Possible isolated thunderstorms in the northern inland and the far southwest. Northeast to northwesterly winds, turning southwesterly in the west later.Friday 25 MayAreas of rain in the east, more widespread over the northern slopes and ranges. Snow on the Alps above 1500 metres. Isolated showers in the southwest. Fine in the northwest. Northwest to southwest winds, becoming gusty.Saturday 26 MayScattered showers in the east, contracting eastwards during the day and falling as snow on the Alps above 1400 metres. Possible isolated showers in the southwest. Fine in the northwest.
