Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 21/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure ridge occurs across southern Australia with general easterly
airflow across Queensland. An upper level trough is moving through western
Queensland at present.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers generally about the east coast, increasing towards the
northeast tropical coast. Some isolated showers also occurring over coastal
inland districts. Very isolated showers occur over the interior, extending to
the southern interior with one or two thunderstorm cells in the eastern Channel
District. Fine over the remainder of the state. Moderate to fresh SE winds
generally along the east coast, strong about the northeast tropical coast.
Moderate E to SE winds across the Gulf and light to moderate SE to NE winds over
the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper trough from western Queensland has moved and weakened into the
southeast region of the state. Fine over the interior, isolated showers
generally about eastern coastal districts. Showers increasing over the southeast
region as the upper trough moves through. Strong winds expanding over the
northeast tropics north of Cairns to Torres Strait. Moderate to fresh SE winds
about the east coast generally. Moderate E to SE winds across the Gulf and light
to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
A secondary upper level trough develops over SA and moves east and
intensifies. This will redevelop the isolated shower activity over the interior
again in the afternoon with rain areas developing in the northwest of the state
late in the day. Fine in the far west and south. Little change in the east, but
one or two thunderstorms may develop in the northern tropics. Strong SE winds
continuing north of Cairns on the east coast.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper level trough continues to move east and intensify. The rain band
associated with this trough with spread over most of western Queensland and
extend northeast, reaching the Darling Downs late in the day with possible
thunder. Rain areas clearing over the Channel country as a surface trough moves
through with a S'ly wind change. This trough or wind change will eventually
reach the Gulf in the evening with strong SSE winds developing. Isolated showers
generally over eastern districts ahead of the rain band. Some isolated
thunderstorms in the northern tropics.
Forecast for Friday
The  progression of the upper level trough east will contract rain areas to
eastern districts. The surface trough will reach the east coast with  a SSW wind
change. Strong SSE winds developing behind the wind change over the southern
tropics north of about Cardwell late in the day. Strong winds expanding in area
over Gulf waters. Becoming dry and cool over the interior with S'ly winds.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The upper level trough will clear the southeast coast on Saturday but will
slope back to the northwest of the state. Rain areas will have cleared off the
northeast on Saturday but isolated showers will return to the northeast tropical
coast by Sunday with SE winds. Remaining dry and cool over the remainder of the
state with early frost redeveloping over the southeast interior Saturday
morning. This will extend to a larger area over the southern interior on Sunday
morning. By Monday isolated showers are redeveloping off the southeast coast as
winds shift S'ly.  Extensive early frost over the southern and southeast
interior on Monday.

Tuesday.
