MELBOURNE - May 21/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is located off the northern NSW coast, while a cold front approaching southwest Victoria will weaken and slip away to the southeast overnight. A stronger cold front will move across western and southern Victoria during Wednesday and then develop into a broad low pressure system over northern Victoria on Thursday as an upper level trough enters the west. The low will move southeast and intensify just east of Gippsland on Friday. Forecast for the rest of MondayFine apart from possible late showers in the far southwest. A cold evening with light to moderate northwest winds, freshening in the west and south.Tuesday 22 MayMorning fog and frost patches in the north and across Gippsland. Cloud increasing from the southwest with isolated showers extending to central areas during the afternoon and becoming scattered in the southwest. A mostly sunny day in the east. Cool to mild with moderate north to northwesterly winds, fresh and gusty at times over southern areas.Wednesday 23 MayAreas of rain in the southwest gradually extending northeastwards during the day to reach the northwest and west Gippsland areas later in the evening. Remaining fine in the east and far northeast. Snow on the Alpine peaks. A cool to mild day with a moderate to fresh northwesterly wind shifting colder west to southwesterly in the west and south later in the day.Thursday 24 MayScattered showers although more isolated over Gippsland and the chance of afternoon thunderstorms in the west. Showers tending to rain areas in the north later in the day. Snow on the ranges down to 1100 metres in the west and about the Alpine peaks in the east. Cool with light to moderate southwest to southeast winds extending throughout.Friday 25 MayRain across central and eastern areas with local heavy falls possible about the northeast ranges and across Gippsland. Chiefly scattered showers in the west. Snow on the ranges above 1400 metres.
