Weather Situation
A high over eastern New South Wales will move eastwards across the Tasman Sea
over the next few days and continue to direct moist east to southeast winds
along the east coast. An upper trough will move across southwest Queensland
during today.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers over eastern districts with more widespread and frequent
showers about the North Tropical Coast, tending to rain at times with locally
moderate falls. Isolated showers should also spread inland to parts of the
Central Highlands, Northern Goldfields and Central West regions during the day.
Fine and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the
east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper trough is expected move east into the southeast districts. Showers
are expected to increase about the southeast coast and adjacent inland with
isolated thunderstorms possible about the southern border ranges. The high over
the Tasman Sea should push mainly isolated showers on to the Central Coast with
more widespread showers over the northeast coast. Isolated thunderstorms may
also return to the Torres Strait area. Some isolated showers should spread into
the eastern interior and over the Gulf Country during the day. Fine and partly
cloudy elsewhere. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast. Light to
moderate E to SE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
Another upper trough is expected to strengthen over central Australia,
causing cloud to increase over Queensland's western districts and central
interior. Western districts and the southern interior should remain fine but
isolated showers are likely in the eastern interior and the Central West
district. Meanwhile the high over the Tasman Sea should push scattered showers
across Queensland's east coast, spreading to rain areas about the North Tropical
Coast and Peninsula district. Some isolated thunderstorms are also possible
near Torres Strait.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper level trough should strengthen further over central Australia,
causing a surface trough to deepen over western Queensland. The two weather
systems should work together to produce scattered showers, isolated storms and
areas of rain across the western, central interior and southern interior
districts. Below average maximum temperatures are also expected beneath the
cloud band, particularly across the northern interior. The high over the Tasman
Sea should maintain a moist onshore flow and at least isolated showers over the
remaining northern and eastern districts, with more widespread showers tending
to rain periods about the North Tropical Coast.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The upper trough should moves eastwards across Queensland late in the week,
spreading rain areas and isolated thunderstorms eastwards across much of the
state, before clearing offshore during the weekend. Remaining fine and mostly
sunny over the far southwest. A new high in the Great Australian Bight should
push drier, gusty, and cooler winds over Queensland's interior western districts
on Friday which should spread across the remainder of the state during the
weekend.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
