MELBOURNE - May 20/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure is weakening off the northern New South Wales coast, while a high pressure ridge extends across the state. This ridge will maintain fine and stable conditions over most districts during the first half of the week, with showers restricted to the northeast where an onshore airstream will prevail. A cold front from the Southern Ocean is forecast to reach western parts of New South Wales on Thursday, before a low develops over the state in response to an upper-level trough. The positioning of this system is currently uncertain, but it is expected to bring rain to most districts as it moves east during Friday and Saturday. Forecast for the rest of MondayEarly frosts about the tablelands and areas of morning fog, mainly in the south and east. Isolated showers near the coast and adjacent ranges north of Sydney, contracting further northwards through the day. Otherwise fine and partly cloudy. Generally light winds.Tuesday 22 MayEarly frosts about the tablelands, and morning fog patches in the east. Isolated showers in the northeast, most likely on the far northern coast and adjacent ranges. Otherwise fine. Light and variable winds, becoming north to northwesterly across the south.Wednesday 23 MayIsolated showers in the northeast, most likely on the northern coast and adjacent ranges. Otherwise fine, with cloud increasing in the southwest. Light to moderate north to northwest winds.Thursday 24 MayIsolated showers across the far north, mainly in the northeast. The chance of late showers in the far southwest. Fine elsewhere.
