Weather Situation
A high [1032 hPa] over the eastern Great Australian Bight is moving slowly
eastwards, maintaining a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast with cool
and dry conditions across most of the state.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over far northern Cape York
Peninsula and the Torres Strait islands. Isolated light showers along the north
tropical coast and southern to Capricornia coast. A fine and mostly sunny
elsewhere. A cool to cold morning in most areas, except for the northern
tropics, with widespread early morning frost in the southern interior and
southeast inland. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times in the
northwest and along the coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will drift to the east-northeast and maintain a firm ridge along the
east coast of Queensland. So conditions will remain fine and sunny in most areas
of the state. Isolated showers will occur in most exposed east coast areas while
storms will continue through Torres Strait. Cool S to SE winds will continue in
most parts, fresh along the east coast. Morning frosts will again occur in the
southeast and southern inland.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will move to far eastern New South Wales as a frontal system moves
into the western Great Australian Bight. So the weather will remain fine and
sunny in areas of the state. Isolated showers will continue in most east coast
areas while storms will continue through Torres Strait. Isolated afternoon
showers will develop over eastern parts of the Northern Goldfields and Upper
Flinders district, as well as northeast parts of the Central Highlands and
Coalfields district. A cold morning for most of the interior with some morning
frosts in the southeast and southern inland.
Forecast for Friday
The high will remain near far eastern New South Wales as the frontal system
reaches southeast Australia. So the weather will remain fine in most areas of
the state. Isolated showers will continue about the east coast while storms will
continue through Torres Strait. Cloudy with morning drizzle and isolated
afternoon showers over the central and tropical interior. Increasing SE winds
along the northeast tropical coast as a trough approaches from the Coral Sea.
Isolated morning frosts are expected in the southeast interior.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The ridge along the east coast will be maintained as a new high moves across
the Great Australian Bight. Winds along the east coast will shift more E'ly and
over the inland winds should be more E to NE. As a result, moisture levels will
slowly increase across much of the state. Showers will continue in most east
coast districts. As well, showers will become more widespread over parts of the
eastern interior and spread into the central interior. A new upper trough will
move into and amplify over central and southeast Australia during the weekend.
As a result cloud will increase over much of the state from Monday onwards with
showers increasing and even some rain possibly developing; though there is still
considerable uncertainty associated with this scenario. Temperatures most likely
returning to near average.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
