Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between
Torres Strait and Cooktown.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for southern Gulf of Carpentaria waters for
Tuesday morning.

Weather Situation
A high [1032 hPa] over the Great Australian Bight will continue to move
steadily to the east north-east and enter the TAsman Sea on Thursday. The high
extended a firming ridge the east coast of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine across most of the state. Only isolated light showers about the north
tropical coast with isolated showers and  storms over far northern Cape York
Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Cool over southern and central areas of the
state. Moderate SW to SE winds, fresh and gusty at times about the far
north-east tropical coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will reach western Victoria during the day and maintain a firm ridge
along the east coast of Queensland. Conditions will continue fine and sunny in
most areas of the state. Only isolated light showers will occur along the north
tropical coast while isolated showers and  storms over far northern Cape York
Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Cold early with frost over the south-east
inland and the southern interior. Winds will be cool moderate to fresh south to
south-east, strong at times about the far north-east tropical coast and about
the south-east Gulf of Carpentaria during the morning.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will drift to the east north-east and maintain a firm ridge along
the east coast of Queensland. So conditions will remain fine and sunny in most
areas of the state. Isolated showers will develop in most exposed east coast
areas while storms will continue through Torres Strait. Cool, moderate to fresh
south to south-east winds will continue in most parts. Morning frosts will again
occur over the south-east and southern inland.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will drift to the north-east while also forming a cell over the
Tasman Sea, as a frontal system moves into the western Great Australian Bight.
So the weather will remain fine and sunny in areas of the state. Isolated
showers will continue in most exposed east coast areas while storms will
continue through Torres Strait. Isolated afternoon showers will develop over
eastern parts of the Central Highlands. Cool, moderate to occasionally fresh
south to south-east winds will continue in most parts. Morning frosts will again
occur over the south-east and southern inland.
Forecast for Friday
The main high cell will move eastwards across the Tasman Sea as the frontal
system reaches south-eastern Australia. So the weather will remain fine and
sunny in areas of the state. Isolated showers will continue in most east coast
areas while storms will continue through Torres Strait. Isolated afternoon
showers will again develop over the Central Highlands area and generally spread
further westwards. Moderate to occasionally fresh south-east winds will continue
in most parts. Morning frosts will again occur over the south-east and southern
inland but will be mostly isolated.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The ridge along the east coast will slowly weaken as the high moves away from
the Australia coast. Winds along the east coast will shift more E'ly and over
the inland to the north-east. As a result, moisture levels will slowly increase
across much of the state. Showers will continue in most east coast districts. As
well afternoon showers will become more widespread over parts of the eastern
interior and spread into the central interior. A new upper trough will move into
and amplify central and south-eastern  Australia over the weekend. As a  result
cloud will increase over much of the state from Monday onwards with showers
increasing and even some rain possibly developing.

Tuesday.
