Weather Situation
A high [1032 hPa] over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge and dry
southerly winds over most of Queensland. The high is expected to drift slowly
eastwards during the week.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine across most of the state. Only isolated light showers about the north
tropical coast and scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over far
northern Cape York Peninsula and the Torres Strait islands. Cool in western,
central and southern districts. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds, gusty at times
about the northern districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should lie over the eastern reaches of the Great Australian Bight
while extending cool and dry south to southeast winds across most of Queensland.
Below average temperatures are expected across most of the state, with
widespread areas of early morning frost about the southern and southeast
interior, and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields district. Fresh to
strong onshore winds should produce some isolated showers about parts of the
east coast, with more widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms possible
near Torres Strait.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high is expected to gradually drift over Victoria and weaken, but it
still should be able to maintain the fine and mostly sunny conditions over most
of Queensland. The high should push some isolated showers and a mainly moderate
to fresh south to southeast wind flow along the east coast. Scattered showers
and isolated thunderstorms over Torres Strait. Temperatures remaining below
average across most of the state, with widespread areas of early morning frost
about the southern and southeast interior, and parts of the Central Highlands
and Coalfields district.
Forecast for Thursday
The high is expected to drift towards the New South Wales coast while
maintaining fine and mostly sunny conditions over the Queensland interior. The
high should push mainly isolated showers and moderate to fresh SE winds over
most of the east coast and nearby inland areas. Scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms over Torres Strait. Minimum temperatures remaining below average
across the interior, and more isolated areas of early morning frost over parts
of the southern and southeast interior.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
A ridge of high pressure should remain over New South Wales, and is likely to
maintain fine conditions across Queensland's interior, and some showers and
moderate to fresh SE winds over the eastern districts. Scattered showers and
isolated thunderstorms over Torres Strait. Morning temperatures remaining below
average in the southern interior and parts of western Queensland, though any
frosts should be confined to isolated parts of the southern and southeast
interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
