Weather Situation
A high over the northern Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east coast of
Queensland. The high will weaken during the day though the ridge will persist as
a new high enters the Great Australian Bight.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Fine over most of the state except for some isolated showers about the
central and northeast coasts. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms
through Torres Strait. High level cloud increasing in the northwest though
remaining fine. Moderate to fresh SE'ly winds over the east coast north of
Fraser Island, strong at times north of Cooktown. Light to moderate NW to NE
winds elsewhere ahead of a S'ly change over the Channel Country.
Forecast for Saturday
Remaining fine and sunny over most of the state. Some patchy high level
cloud over the northwestern and central Queensland districts, but no rain. The
new high over the Great Australian Bight should maintain fresh to strong SE'ly
winds and isolated showers along the central and northeast coasts. Scattered
showers and isolated thunderstorms through Torres Strait. Patchy areas of
morning fog about the Capricornia and southern coast districts, clearing to a
fine and sunny day.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should remain over the Great Australian Bight, and is expected to
push cool southerly winds over Queensland's southern interior. Meanwhile a ridge
is expected to push some isolated showers across the northeast coast, and some
scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over far northern Cape York
Peninsula and the Torres Strait.
Forecast for Monday
The high should move into the far eastern reaches of the Great Australian
Bight while pushing cool southerly winds and dry and fine conditions across the
southern and central districts of Queensland. Areas of early frost are expected
about the southeast and southern interior. A ridge is expected to maintain fresh
to strong southeast winds and isolated showers across the northeast coast.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected about far northern
Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high is expected to drift across Victoria and extend cool southerly winds
across the remainder of the state. Widespread areas of early morning frost are
expected about the southern interior, the southeast interior, and parts of the
Central Highlands and Coalfields district. Fresh to strong onshore winds are
expected to maintain isolated showers about the northeast coast, more widespread
with isolated thunderstorms about the Torres Strait.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high should remain over southeast Australia, maintaining the fine, sunny
and dry conditions across most of Queensland. Widespread morning frosts are
expected mid week about the southern and southeast interior, and also over parts
of the Central Highlands district. The frosts should ease and become more
isolated towards the end of the week. Isolated showers should redevelop about
most of the east coast during Wednesday, while showers and storms should
continue over the Torres Strait.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
