Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters Cape Grenville to
Cooktown for Thursday afternoon.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over northeast New South Wales will continue to move slowly eastwards
and will extend a strengthening ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A
frontal system will move into the southwest of the state late Friday and off the
coast during Sunday and early Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Fine and clear over most areas of the state. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms through Torres Strait, and isolated showers along the exposed east
coast north of Cardwell. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times along
the northeast tropical coast.
Forecast for Thursday
Fine and mostly sunny through the interior of the state and about the
southeast. Isolated showers along the exposed east coast north of Fraser Island,
tending to scattered at times about the north tropical coast. Isolated showers
and thunderstorms through Torres Strait. Some early morning fogs may occur about
the far southern coast. A warm day in the west. Mostly light to moderate SE to
NE winds, fresh at times along the northeast tropical coast.
Forecast for Friday
The high over the Tasman Sea will begin to weaken while moving eastwards.
Moderate to fresh southeast trade winds will continue along the east tropical
coast. Trade wind showers will continue in exposed areas of the east coast but
will start to contract northwards during the day. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms will continue through Torres Strait. Fine and mostly sunny
conditions will continue across the interior of the state. Some morning fog
areas will occur about the far southern coast. A frontal system will move into
the southwest late in the day.
Forecast for Saturday
A new upper trough will amplify over southeast Australia, although it will
have little impact on Queensland's weather, with just some high cloud developing
across the southern and central tropics producing little if any rainfall. The
ridge along the east coast will weaken during the day, although isolated showers
will continue about the east coast north of about Mackay. Some morning fog areas
will occur about the Capricornia and southern coast. Fine and sunny conditions
will continue over the central and southern interior but becoming cooler as the
frontal system moves eastwards across the state.
Forecast for Sunday
The cold front will move off the southern Queensland coast during the
morning, and reach the St Lawrence area by the evening, with a southwest to
southerly wind change, but dry conditions will rule out any chance of rainfall
with the passage of this feature. Further north, the ridge will remain in place
along the east coast, with trade wind southeasterlies and a few showers near the
northeast tropical coast, and a thunderstorm or two about Torres Strait. Morning
fog is again likely, ahead of the wind change. Cooler conditions will become
established over the far south.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The stable conditions and relatively dry air will remain in place over most
of the state. As a result fine and sunny conditions will continue in most areas,
although moderate to fresh SE trade winds will continue to direct isolated
showers onto the northeast tropical coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
