Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over north-east New South Wales will continue to move slowly eastwards
and will continue to extend a ridge along the east coast of Queensland.  A
frontal system will move into the south-west of the state late Friday and off
the coast during Sunday and early Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue in most areas of the state.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue through Torres Strait while
isolated showers will occur along the exposed east coast north of Cardwell. Some
early morning fogs will occur about the southern coast. A warm day in the west.
Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times along the northeast tropical
coast.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will continue to be slow moving and will maintain a firm ridge along
the east coast of Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue
through the interior of the state and about the southeast. The onshore flow is
expected to freshen along the east tropical coast and become strong north of
Cooktown. South-east trade showers will occur along the exposed east coast north
of Fraser Island and possibly tend to scattered at times about the north
tropical coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue through Torres
Strait. Some early morning fogs may occur about the far southern coast. A warm
day will occur in the west.
Forecast for Friday
The high over the Tasman Sea will begin to weaken while moving eastwards.
Moderate to fresh southeast trade winds will continue along the east tropical
coast and will decrease below strong north of Cooktown. Southeast  trade showers
will continue in exposed areas of the east coast but will start to contract
northwards during the day.  Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue
through Torres Strait. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue across the
interior of the state. Some morning fog areas will occur about the far southern
coast. A frontal system will move into the southwest late in the day.
Forecast for Saturday
A new upper trough will amplify over southeast Australia and this will
generate a cloud band with little or no rain across the southern and central
tropics. The ridge along the east coast will weaken during the day with the
strong winds north of Cooktown easing. Isolated showers will continue about the
east coast north of about Mackay. Some morning fog areas will occur about the
Capricornia and southern coast. Fine and sunny conditions will continue over the
central and southern interior but becoming cooler as the frontal system moves
eastwards  across the state.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The upper trough and cold front should contract off the east coast early on
Sunday, introducing cooler SW to SE winds across most of the state. As a result
fine and sunny conditions will continue in most areas although moderate to fresh
SE trade winds will continue to direct isolated showers onto the northeast
tropical coast. Morning fog areas will likely continue about the central and
tropical coasts on Sunday morning.
