Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system is located over eastern NSW and extends a ridge southwards to another high over the Southern Ocean. A cold front will approach western Victoria tonight, but will then weaken and slide southeastwards on Wednesday. Another front will follow a similar path on Thursday. A stronger cold front will then cross the State on Friday with an associated low pressure system expected near southern Tasmania by Friday night. The low will move slowly eastwards on Saturday as the next high pressure system moves over the Bight.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayFine over most areas this evening, but isolated showers possible in the west later tonight. Moderate north to northwest winds fresh and gusty at times in the south and strong to gale force about the Alpine peaks.Wednesday 9 MayPartly cloudy with isolated showers and the chance of thunderstorms developing over most districts. Mild to warm with mainly moderate northwest to westerly winds, strong at first about the ranges.Thursday 10 MayMorning fog patches inland. Isolated showers along the coast and over the far southwest. A mild and partly cloudy day with generally light westerly winds.Friday 11 MayIsolated showers possible over northern districts and the far east. Scattered showers extending to remaining areas as moderate to fresh northwest winds shift colder southwesterly. Showers falling as snow above 1400 metres Friday night.Saturday 12 MayScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, widespread near the coast with isolated hail and thunder. Isolated showers over the northern plains. Snow showers above 1400 metres decreasing to 900 metres by Saturday night. Cool to cold with fresh west to southwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
