Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high [1017 hPa] over New South Wales is moving slowly northeastwards and
will continue to extend a ridge across most of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine and clear across nearly all of the state with only isolated showers and
thunderstorms near Torres Strait. Some high cloud will move across the far south
of the state.  Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times along the
tropical coast. Powerful surf along the coast south of Cape Moreton will
continue to ease.
Forecast for Tuesday
Fine and sunny conditions in most areas. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
near Torres Strait and over far northern Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers
also about the north tropical coast in the onshore airstream. Possible isolated
early morning frosts in the southeast interior. Early morning fogs about the
east coast and adjacent inland. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times
along the tropical coast. Winds becoming light to moderate SE to NE over the
interior in the afternoon.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high is expected to move into the northern Tasman Sea overnight. Fine and
mostly sunny conditions are expected to continue in most areas although isolated
showers and thunderstorms will continue in Torres Strait and over far northern
Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers will continue along the north tropical
coast as the onshore airflow freshens. Early morning fogs about the southern and
central coasts and adjacent inland. A warm day in the west.
Forecast for Thursday
The high is expected to move east across the Tasman Sea whilst a new high
will develop in the Great Australian Bight. Fine and mostly sunny through the
interior of the state and about the southeast. The onshore flow is expected to
increase further about the central and tropical coasts with isolated showers in
these areas, tending to scattered showers about the north tropical coast.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue about the far north of Cape
York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Chance of isolated afternoon showers about the
northwest Gulf Country.  Early morning fogs about the southern and central
coasts and adjacent inland. A warm day in the west.
Forecast for Friday
The new high will move slowly east across the Great Australian Bight with a
ridge extending through southern Queensland and connecting to the high in the
Tasman Sea. Fine and mostly sunny across a large part of the state. Isolated
showers will continue about the east coast, mainly affecting areas north of
Gladstone, with scattered showers about the north tropical coast. Isolated
showers and thunderstorms will continue about the far north of Cape York
Peninsula and Torres Strait. Chance of isolated afternoon showers about the
northwest Gulf Country.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue in most areas with warm days
in the west. However, southeast winds along the east coast will continue to feed
moisture into this region with increasing showers, mainly about the central and
tropical coasts. Remaining fine about the southeast coast. Fogs will continue
about parts of the east coast and adjacent inland into the weekend.
