MELBOURNE - May 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1020 hPa] over southeast Australia is moving slowly eastwards and will continue to extend a ridge across most of Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Monday Fine and mostly sunny across nearly all of the state. Only isolated showers and thunderstorms near Torres Strait with the chance of isolated late showers about the north tropical coast. A cool to cold morning through the interior of the state with isolated early morning frosts in the southeast interior. Some high cloud will move across most far southern districts. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times along the tropical coast. Powerful surf along the coast south of Cape Moreton will ease during the day. Forecast for Tuesday The high will move into far northeast New South Wales and maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions in most areas. Again the exception will be through Torres strait and over far northern Cape York Peninsula where isolated showers and thunderstorms will occur. Isolated showers also about the north tropical coast in the onshore airstream. Isolated early morning frosts in the southeast interior. Early morning fogs about the east coast and adjacent inland. Forecast for Wednesday The high is expected to move into the northern Tasman Sea overnight. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected to continue in most areas with the exception again being through Torres strait and over far northern Cape York Peninsula where isolated showers and thunderstorms will occur. Isolated showers will continue along the north tropical coast as the onshore airflow freshens. Early morning fogs about the southern and central coasts. A warm day in the west. Forecast for Thursday The high is expected to move east across the Tasman Sea whilst a new high will develop in the Great Australian Bight. The onshore flow is expected to increase further about the central and tropical coasts with isolated showers in these areas, tending to scattered showers about the north tropical coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue about the far north of Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Chance of isolated afternoon showers about the northwest Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere. Early morning fogs about the southern and central coasts and adjacent inland. A warm day in the west. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue in most areas of the state with warm days in the west. However, southeast winds along the east coast will continue to feed moisture into this region with increasing showers, mainly about the central and tropical coasts. Fogs will continue about parts of the east coast and adjacent inland into the weekend. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday.
