Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 5/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over South Australia is moving slowly eastwards and extended a ridge
across most of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Fine across nearly all of the state. Only isolated showers and storms over
far northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait.  Light to moderate
SW to SE winds, fresh at times mainly near the coast. Powerful surf developing
along beaches south of Cape Moreton.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will move into New South Wales and will maintain fine and sunny
conditions over most of Queensland. Only isolated showers and storms will occur
over far northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Some morning
frosts will occur over the south-east inland. Winds will be light to moderate SW
to SE, fresh at times along the east tropical coast. Powerful surf will occur
along beaches south of Cape Moreton. Some high cloud will move across the
south-west of the state.
Forecast for Monday
The high will move further to the north-east and will maintain and mostly
sunny conditions across nearly all of Queensland. Again the exception will be
though Torres strait and over far northern Cape York Peninsula where isolate
showers and storms will occur. Isolated morning frost will occur over the
south-east inland. Some high cloud will move across most far southern districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will move into far north-east New South Wales and will maintain fine
and mostly sunny conditions in most areas. Again the exception will be though
Torres strait and over far northern Cape York Peninsula where isolate showers
and storms will occur. Isolated morning frost will occur over the south-east
inland.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will split with a secondary centre forming in the Tasman Sea.
However, fine and mostly sunny conditions in continue in most areas with the
exception again being though Torres strait and over far northern Cape York
Peninsula where isolate showers and storms will occur. Isolated morning frost
will occur over the south-east inland. Scattered morning fogs will develop along
the southern and particularly the far southern coast.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue in most areas of the state.
However, with the high moving into and slowly across the Tasman Sea, the SE
winds onto the coast will become moister. As a result, isolated showers will
develop from Thursday onwards, initially on exposed parts of the east tropical
coast and then spreading southwards onto the southern coast. Morning fogs will
continue on the far southern coast into the weekend.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
