MELBOURNE - May 4/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters from Lady Elliott Island to Double Island Point. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east coast of Queensland. An upper level trough lies over the southern interior. A surface trough extends from the northwest to the southeast interior, while a second trough is deepening off the southern Queensland coast while moving further away from the coast. Forecast for the rest of Friday Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the southeast and southeast interior, and hail is possible with the storms. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the far northern Peninsula and Torres Strait. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds along the east coast, and light to moderate SW to SE winds over the interior. Forecast for Saturday Isolated morning showers about Fraser Island. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the far northern Peninsula and Torres Strait. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere, with cooler morning temperatures over the interior, and patchy areas of frost about the southern interior. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times near the coast. Forecast for Sunday A ridge of high pressure should extend from Victoria into the southern Queensland interior, maintaining fine, sunny and dry conditions over most of Queensland. Just isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern reaches of Cape York Peninsula. Areas of morning frost about the southeast and southern interior. Forecast for Monday A weak high over Queensland is expected to maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across Queensland, except for isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern reaches of Cape York Peninsula. A weak upper level trough will produce some high cloud over the southern inland, but no rainfall is expected. Areas of morning frost about the southeast and southern interior. Forecast for Tuesday The weak high will remain slow moving near southeast Queensland, with fine and mostly sunny conditions expected across Queensland, except for isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern reaches of Cape York Peninsula. The weak upper level trough will push offshore and contract the high cloud over southern Queensland offshore during the day. Areas of morning frost about the southeast and southern interior. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Dry and stable conditions should maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions over almost the whole state, with just isolated showers about northern Cape York Peninsula, and isolated showers redeveloping about the coast later in the week. The dry conditions should lead to morning frosts continuing over the southern and southeast interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
