Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters from Lady Elliott
Island to Double Island Point.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east coast of
Queensland. An upper level trough lies over the southern interior. A surface
trough extends from the northwest down to the southern interior, while a second
trough is deepening off the southern Queensland coast.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the southeast and southeast
interior, and hail is possible with the storms. Isolated light showers clearing
from the tropical east coast during the day. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
over the far northern Peninsula and torres Strait. Fresh to strong winds about
Fraser Island easing during the day. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds along the
remainder of the east coast, and light to moderate SW to SE winds over the
interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The low off the southeast coast should continue to move away to the southeast
and will have minimal impact over land areas of southeast Queensland, although
one or two early showers may persist about Fraser Island. Otherwise, relatively
dry air and increasing stability will lead to fine and sunny conditions
spreading virtually throughout the state, with just a few showers and isolated
thunderstorms about the far northern Peninsula and Torres Strait. Cooler morning
temperatures over the interior, and patchy areas of frost about the southern
interior.
Forecast for Sunday
A ridge of high pressure should extend from Victoria up into the southern
Queensland interior, maintaining fine, sunny and dry conditions over most of
Queensland. Just isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern reaches of
Cape York Peninsula. Areas of morning frost about the southeast and southern
interior.
Forecast for Monday
A weak high over Queensland is expected to maintain fine and mostly sunny
conditions across Queensland, except for isolated showers and thunderstorms over
the northern reaches of Cape York Peninsula. A weak upper level trough will
produce some high cloud over the southern inland, but no rainfall is expected.
Areas of morning frost about the southeast and southern interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Dry and stable conditions should maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions
over almost the whole state, with just isolated showers about northern Cape York
Peninsula. The dry conditions should lead to morning frosts continuing over the
southern and southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
