Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters from
Lady Elliott Island to Maroochydore.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east coast of
Queensland. An upper level trough lies over the southern interior. A surface
trough extends from the northwest down to the southern interior, while a second
trough is deepening off the southern Queensland coast.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Mainly isolated showers near the east coast, becoming more widespread about
the Wide Bay and Sunshine Coasts late in the day. Just the chance of some
isolated thunderstorms about the state's southeast. Scattered showers and
isolated thunderstorms from the central west down to the southern and southeast
interior, and isolated showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula and
through Torres Strait. Moderate S to SE winds, fresh about parts of the east
coast and western areas and becoming fresh strong about Fraser Island during the
evening.
Forecast for Friday
The upper level trough should move over the southeast of the state and
continue to provide enough instability for scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms over the southeast and southeast interior, and hail is possible
with the storms. Becoming fine and mostly sunny along the central and northeast
coast as drier air pushes further northwards. Milder temperatures should spread
further north and east into most of the southern half of Queensland. The surface
trough off the southern coast will continue to deepen into a low, but at the
same time will begin to move further offshore, allowing the fresh to strong
winds about Fraser Island to ease. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds along the
remainder of the east coast, and light to moderate SW to SE winds over the
interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The low off the southeast coast should continue to move away to the southeast
and will have minimal impact over land areas of southeast Queensland, although
it may produce some early showers about the southeast coast. Otherwise fine and
mostly sunny over the southeast districts. Elsewhere over the state, relatively
dry air and increasing stability will lead to fine and sunny conditions
spreading virtually throughout, with just a few showers and isolated
thunderstorms about the far northern Peninsula and Torres Strait. Cooler morning
temperatures over the interior, and patchy areas of frost about the southern
interior.
Forecast for Sunday
A ridge of high pressure should extend from Victoria up into the southern
Queensland interior, maintaining fine, sunny and dry conditions over most of
Queensland. Just some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern
reaches of Cape York Peninsula. Areas of morning frost about the southeast and
southern interior.
Forecast for Monday
A weak high over Queensland is expected to maintain fine and mostly sunny
conditions across Queensland, except for some isolated showers and thunderstorms
over the northern reaches of Cape York Peninsula. Areas of morning frost about
the southeast and southern interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Dry and stable conditions should maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions
over almost the whole state, with just isolated showers about northern Cape York
Peninsula. The dry conditions should lead to morning frosts continuing over the
southern and southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
