MELBOURNE - May 2/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system over central Bass Strait will continue to develop and will remain in the vicinity today. The low will move slowly southwards over Tasmania during Friday and then weaken to the southeast of Tasmania later Saturday. As the low moves away, a weak ridge of high pressure will move across the State over the weekend. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayPatchy frost in the north in the morning. Scattered showers and local hail over southern and mountain districts tending to areas of rain through central parts of southern Victoria and west Gippsland. Isolated thunderstorms west Gippsland. Isolated showers possible over the northern plains but dry over the far northwest and southeast. Snowfalls above 1100m over the eastern ranges, increasing to 1400m in the afternoon. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong at times over southern Gippsland.Friday 4 MayWidespread showers over central parts of southern Victoria and over west Gippsland. Isolated showers over most remaining districts, but dry over the northwest and far southeast. Cool with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong at times about the Gippsland coast.Saturday 5 MayIsolated showers over southern Victoria, but fine over the north and far east. Cool with light to moderate west to southwesterly winds.Sunday 6 MayIsolated showers in the south contracting eastwards during the day. Fine over the north.
