MELBOURNE - May 2/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front over the far northeast of the State will clearing tonight. A low pressure system is developing over central Bass Strait and will remain in the vicinity during Thursday. The low should weaken and move southwards over Tasmania later Friday then south of Tasmania. As the low moves away, a weak ridge of high pressure will move across the State over the weekend. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of rain and thunderstorms over the far east clearing tonight. Scattered showers over remaining southern and mountain districts with possible hail. Snowfalls developing above 1200m this evening. Moderate to locally fresh southwest to southerly winds.Thursday 3 MayPatchy frost in the north in the morning. Scattered showers over southern and mountain districts tending to areas of rain through central parts of southern Victoria and west Gippsland with isolated thunderstorms. Isolated showers possible over the northern plains but dry over the far northwest. Snowfalls above 1200m over the eastern ranges, increasing to 1400m in the afternoon. Cool with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds.Friday 4 MayWidespread showers over central parts of southern Victoria and over west Gippsland. Isolated showers over most remaining districts, but dry over the far northwest and far southeast. Cool with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds.Saturday 5 MayIsolated showers over southern Victoria, but fine over the north and far east. Cool with light to moderate west to southwesterly winds.Sunday 6 MayIsolated showers in the south contracting eastwards during the day. Fine over the north.
