MELBOURNE - May 1/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will move through central districts this morning then eastern districts in the afternoon, clearing the far northeast tonight. A low pressure system is expected to form over eastern Bass Strait later today and potentially intensify as it moves slowly westwards on Thursday. The low should weaken and move southwards over Tasmania on Friday then south of Tasmania on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of rain over central districts contracting to eastern areas during the morning with isolated thunderstorms possible over the far east. Scattered showers to follow in the south but only isolated showers to follow in northeast. Local hail possible with showers in the south later in the day and snowfalls developing above 1200m in the evening. Cool with moderate to locally fresh southwesterly winds extending throughout.Thursday 3 MayPatchy frost in the northeast in the morning. Scattered showers in the south tending to areas of rain during the day. Isolated showers in the north, mainly in the afternoon. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible about the ranges and locally in the south. Snowfalls possible above 1100m over the eastern ranges, increasing to 1400m in the afternoon. Cool with moderate west to southwesterly winds, fresh near the coast.Friday 4 MayIsolated showers in the south. Cool with moderate west to southwesterly winds, fresh near the coast.Saturday 5 MayIsolated showers, mainly in southern and mountain districts.
