Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 29/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between
Sandy Cape and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1027 hPa] over southeastern Australia is moving slowly eastwards and
will move across the Tasman Sea during today and Tuesday. The high extended a
firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A low pressure system located off
the far southern coast of Queensland will continue to move away from the
coast.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers along the east coast, tending scattered about the North
Tropical Coast. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern
Peninsula and northern Gulf Country districts. Fine and mostly sunny conditions
elsewhere. Fresh S to SE winds in the east, light to moderate E to SE over the
interior. Temperatures will remain below average across most of the state but
will be close to average near the coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will continue to move eastwards and will reach the New Zealand area.
Moderate to fresh E to SE winds will continue across the state. Isolated showers
will continue in most east coast districts and tend to scattered about the North
Tropical Coast and Cape York Peninsula. The showers will spread into the
adjacent inland in the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms over land areas near
the Gulf of Carpentaria. Afternoon showers will also develop over the northwest
and west of the state. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur
elsewhere.
Forecast for Wednesday
The ridge along the east coast will begin to weaken as the high moves east of
New Zealand and a new upper trough approaches southeastern Australia. Moderate
to fresh SE winds will continue in most east coast districts along with isolated
showers. These showers will tend to scattered about western Cape York Peninsula
and through Torres Strait where isolated storms will occur. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms will develop through the northwest and west of the state as the
upper trough destabilises the environment. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper trough will move slowly east, with showers and thunderstorms
extending into the southern and southeast interior. Isolated showers will
continue over eastern districts in the onshore SE flow, with showers becoming
scattered in the south. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over far northern
Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The upper trough will slowly tilt out of the state during Friday and Saturday
so only isolated showers and storms are expected about the southeast on Friday
and at best only isolated showers on Saturday. On Sunday fine conditions will
occur over the southeast. Elsewhere over the state fine conditions will occur in
most areas into and through the weekend. Isolated showers will continue along
parts of the east coast on Friday and then clear northwards to northern Cape
York Peninsula on Saturday and Sunday. Showers and isolated storms will continue
through Torres Strait during this period.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
