Warning Summary at issue time A Flood Warning is current for coastal river catchments from Caboolture to the New South Wales border. A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Sandy Cape and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1026 hPa] over southeast Australia extends a ridge through Queensland. An upper level trough over southern inland Queensland will move east during today and off the southern coast tonight. A low pressure system lies off the southern Queensland coast, and it is expected to intensify as it moves to the southeast during today. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Scattered showers about the southeast, isolated showers elsewhere about the eastern districts. Morning drizzle about the southeast interior, clearing to a mostly fine day with isolated afternoon showers. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Peninsula district. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the interior. Temperatures will remain below average across most of the state. Moderate S to SE winds, fresh to strong and gusty about the southern coast. Forecast for Monday The high over southeast Australia is expected to move east and become situated over the Tasman Sea late in the day. The high will push fresh to strong onshore winds and mainly isolated showers over Queensland's eastern districts, scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior. Temperatures will remain below average across most of the state but should become close to average near the coast. Forecast for Tuesday The high will continue to move east across the Tasman Sea as another high pushes into the Great Australian Bight. Fresh to strong onshore winds will be maintained through eastern districts with isolated showers, scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Afternoon showers are expected to develop in western areas as a new trough enters the southwest of the state. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Forecast for Wednesday The new high in the Great Australian Bight will continue to move east and intensify. Fresh to strong winds should continue about eastern districts with mostly isolated showers, scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf of Carpentaria Coast. A new upper trough is likely to enter the southwest of the state, increasing instability about western districts with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The high is expected to move east towards New Zealand, maintaining an onshore wind flow and showers across Queensland's eastern districts. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will persist over northern Cape York Peninsula. The upper trough should move east across the state and is expected to intensify as it does so. Showers and thunderstorms over the interior are expected to move into the southern interior and southeast of the state during Friday and Saturday The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
