MELBOURNE - Apr 26/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters between Bowen and Burnett Heads. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1026 hPa] over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge across southern Queensland and cool southerly winds across most of the state. An upper level trough over the Channel Country extends a cloud band over many of Queensland's central and eastern districts. A trough over the Coral Sea is expected to deepen and approach the coast late today. Forecast for the rest of Friday Cloudy with areas of rain over the central and southern interior, and the eastern districts south of about Bowen. Moderate to possibly heavy falls are expected over the Central Coast and Whitsundays, Capricornia and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields districts. Rain clearing from the Central West during the day, and little or no rain over the southern interior districts. Cool to cold across most of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, becoming fresh to strong and gusty along the central coast and islands late in the day. Forecast for Saturday The upper level trough is expected to weaken over the Channel Country, causing the light rain and drizzle to gradually ease during the day about the southern and central interior. However the upper trough should still be strong enough to produce areas of rain across the eastern districts south of about Bowen, and some moderate falls about the Capricornia and Wide Bay regions. A surface trough should drift further away from the Capricornia and Wide Bay coasts during the day, but fresh to possibly strong winds are still possible along this section of coast. Isolated showers about the northeast tropics and isolated thunderstorms over the Peninsula district. Fine and mostly sunny over the west. Temperatures remaining below average across the state. Forecast for Sunday The upper trough is expected to move steadily eastwards across the southern districts, pushing the rain band offshore very early in the morning. The high should move over Victoria and extend onshore winds and generally isolated showers over Queensland's eastern districts, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Peninsula district. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior. Temperatures remaining below average across most of the state. Forecast for Monday The high is expected to remain near Victoria and push onshore winds and mainly isolated showers over Queensland's eastern districts. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior. Temperatures remaining below average across most of the state, though getting close to average near the coast. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The high is expected to move east towards New Zealand early in the new working week, and maintain an onshore wind flow and showers across Queensland's eastern districts. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula. A new upper trough and surface trough may produce some isolated showers and possibly storms over the state's central interior from Tuesday. Temperatures returning to near average by mid week. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday. Weather & Warnings Australia New South Wales Victoria Queensland Warnings Summary Forecasts Brisbane Forecast Qld.
