Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system located just to the southeast of Victoria is expected to intensify then move slowly eastwards today, then away to the southeast on Thursday. The next high pressure system will remain near the Bight on Thursday and Friday and will extend a ridge across to northern Victoria. A cold front will cross Bass Strait on Saturday and the high pressure system will be located to the south of Adelaide later in the day.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayRain in central and southeastern areas contracting to East Gippsland this morning with heavy falls developing. Isolated thunderstorms also possible over the far southeast. Scattered showers in remaining southern and mountain areas, but mostly dry over the northern plains. Snow showers possible on the Alpine peaks this morning. Cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong to gale force over the far southeast.Fire Danger -  Generally low to Moderate, but reaching high over the northwest.Thursday 26 AprilIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered near the coast. Fine over the northern plains. Generally cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Friday 27 AprilIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts mostly clearing later. Fine over the northern plains after morning fog patches. Generally cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Saturday 28 Aprilisolated showers developing in southern and mountain areas. Fine over the northern plains. Mild west to northwesterly winds tending cooler southwesterly during the day and strengthening.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDV10310
