MELBOURNE - Apr 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low is deepening to the east of Bass Strait in response to the presence of an upper-level system, while a ridge of high pressure extends into most of the state from a high over the Bight. Between these systems a fairly dry and cold southerly airstream is becoming particularly vigorous over southeast New South Wales during Wednesday. This pattern will be slow-moving on Thursday and Friday as the low gradually weakens and heads east. As the ridge strengthens from the west, fine and stable conditions will be restored for the bulk of the state through to the weekend. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers in the southeast, tending scattered on the Alps and far South Coast, with snow showers above 1400 metres gradually clearing by the afternoon. The chance of afternoon showers in the far southwest. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere, although cool. South to southwesterly winds, strong and gusty in southern and central districts.Thursday 26 AprilFine apart from the chance of morning showers in the far southeast, mainly on the Alps. Early frosts about the tablelands. Partly cloudy in the south, and sunny in the north. South to southwesterly winds.Friday 27 AprilFine apart from the chance of showers in the far southeast, and about the northern half of the coast. Early frosts about the tablelands. Mostly light south to southwesterly winds, with afternoon sea breezes developing near the coast.Saturday 28 AprilFine apart from the chance of showers in the far northeast, and about western slopes of the southern ranges.
