Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A very weak ridge lies along the east coast. An upper level trough is
producing a cloud band across Queensland's southern districts, although the
associated rainfall is generally very light. A ridge over the Great Australian
Bight is pushing cooler, drier air into southern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Patchy light rain from the northwest of the state to the southeast.  Fine
over the remainder of the state. Moderate S to SE winds, tending NE to NW near
the southern coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper trough should move off the southeast Queensland coast, however
another upper level trough is expected to strengthen into an upper low near the
northwestern Queensland border. An associated cloud band will thicken and rain
areas should increase through the northwest of the state.  The cloud should
extend into the central interior, though limited humidity levels will mean that
little or no rain should reach the ground in the region.   Some cloud is also
expected to extend into the state's southeast, but rain is not expected.  Fine
elsewhere across the state except for some isolated showers about the central
coast and northeast coast, and some isolated showers and storms over parts of
the Peninsula district. Dry and cool southerly winds should extend through most
of Queensland, with maximum temperatures well below average, except along the
Central Coast and in the far northern tropics.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper low should move into the eastern reaches of the Northern Territory,
whilst maintaining a rain band over Queensland's northwest, and extending into
the western, central and the remainder of the northern interior during the day.
Some isolated storms are also possible within the cloud band.  Increasing low
level moisture should lead to mainly scattered showers about the central and
northeast coasts and nearby inland areas.  The southern districts should be
fine, though cool, with areas of early frost expected about parts of the
southern and southeast interior.
Forecast for Friday
The upper trough should weaken over the Channel Country, but will still be
able to extend a cloud band with areas of rain, showers and isolated storms over
the much of the state.  Isolated showers over the southern districts, and below
average temperatures throughout the state.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper level trough should remain over the southern interior, and
maintaining a cloud band over the eastern districts.  A low level trough may
work with the upper trough to produce more frequent showers and rain periods,
and some isolated storms about the Central Coast, Central Highlands and
Capricornia regions. Fine and mostly sunny over the western districts and the
southern interior.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The upper level trough is expected to progress slowly eastwards over the
southern districts during the weekend, and a surface trough should remain near
the central coast.  Both systems should maintain active showers, areas of rain
and isolated storms over at least parts of the Central Coast, Central Highlands
and Capricornia regions during Sunday, before easing on Monday as the troughs
weaken.  An onshore wind flow should produce showers over the remaining eastern
districts, and a high over southeast Australia should keep Queensland's interior
fine and relatively dry.
