MELBOURNE - Apr 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low system over Bass Strait is moving eastwards and will reach the Tasman Sea on Wednesday. The low will then move away to the southeast on Thursday. The next high pressure system will remain near the Bight on Thursday and Friday and will extend a ridge across to northern Victoria. A cold front will cross Bass Strait on Saturday and the high pressure system will be located to the south of Adelaide later in the day. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayRain areas over the Central District and West and South Gippsland with locally heavy falls. Scattered showers elsewhere. Local hail and thunder in the east. Snow above 1200 metres. Fresh to strong southwesterly winds, reaching gale force at times along the coast.Wednesday 25 AprilRain in central and southeastern areas contracting eastwards during the day with some heavy falls developing over East Gippsland. Scattered showers in remaining southern and mountain areas with isolated showers over the north. Snow above 1200 metres retreating to the peaks during the afternoon. Cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Fire Danger - Low to Moderate.Thursday 26 AprilIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered near the coast. Fine over the northern plains. Generally cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Friday 27 AprilIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts mostly clearing later. Fine over the northern plains after morning fog patches. Generally cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Saturday 28 Aprilisolated showers developing in southern and mountain areas. Fine over the northern plains.
