Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low system over Bass Strait is moving eastwards and will reach the Tasman Sea on Wednesday. The low will then move away to the southeast on Thursday. The next high pressure system will remain near the Bight on Thursday and Friday and will extend a ridge across to northern Victoria.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayRain areas with locally heavy falls reaching the Central districts this morning and extending to West and South Gippsland. Scattered showers elsewhere. Local hail and thunder. Snow above 1200 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds, tending southwesterly and becoming strong and squally about the coasts.Fire Danger -  High in the northwest.Wednesday 25 AprilRain in central and southeastern areas contracting eastwards during the day with some heavy falls developing over East Gippsland. Scattered showers in remaining southern and mountain areas with isolated showers over the north. Snow above 1200 metres retreating to the peaks during the afternoon. Local hail and thunder in the far east at first. Cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Thursday 26 AprilIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered near the coast. Fine over the northern plains. Generally cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Friday 27 AprilIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered near the coast. Fine over the northern plains after morning fog patches. Generally cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Tuesday.Product IDV10310
