MELBOURNE - Apr 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough over central Victoria will move away to the east tonight. An associated low pressure system will develop near northwestern Tasmania tonight before intensifying and drifting across central Bass Strait during Tuesday. The low should reach the Tasman Sea on Wednesday and continue to move eastwards. The next high pressure system will remain near the Bight on Thursday and Friday and will extend a ridge across to northern Victoria. Forecast for the rest of MondayWidespread showers in the southwest and central areas tending to rain in the southwest this evening. Scattered showers elsewhere, although more isolated in the northwest and over East Gippsland. Local hail and thunder. A cooler westerly wind extending throughout.Tuesday 24 AprilRain areas with locally heavy falls in the southwest extending across central and eastern areas during the afternoon and evening. Scattered showers elsewhere. Local hail and thunder. Snow above 1200 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds, tending southwesterly and becoming strong and squally about the southwest and central coasts.Fire Danger - High in the northwest.Wednesday 25 AprilRain in central and southeastern areas contracting eastwards during the day. Scattered showers in remaining southern and mountain areas with isolated showers over the north. Snow above 1200 metres retreating to the peaks during the afternoon. Local hail and thunder in the far east at first. Cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Thursday 26 AprilIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered near the coast. Fine over the northern plains. Generally cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Friday 27 April Isolated showers over southern and mountain districts, scattered near the coast. Fine over the northern plains after morning fog patches. Generally cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.
