Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system is well south of Tasmania. A cold front near southwestern Victoria will move across the State today, while another low pressure system will develop just northeast of Tasmania by this evening. The new low will intensify and move across central Bass Strait during Tuesday and then away over the Tasman Sea on Wednesday. The next high pressure system will move over the Bight later Wednesday and extend a ridge to western Victoria on Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of MondayWidespread showers in the southwest, extending eastwards during the day although more isolated in the northwest and over Gippsland. Local hail and thunder developing in the southwest and south this afternoon and showers increasing to rain areas in the southwest tonight. The chance of an afternoon thunderstorms in the east. Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, shifting colder westerly over western and southern areas.Fire Danger -  High in the northwest.Tuesday 24 AprilRain areas in the southwest extending across central and eastern areas by evening. Local heavy falls possible about the southwest and central coasts. Isolated showers and local hail possible in the east ahead of the rain and snow falling above 1200m about the ranges. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds, tending southwesterly and becoming strong and squally about the southwest and central coasts.Wednesday 25 AprilScattered showers in southern and mountain areas, falling as snow about the alpine areas and clearing in the north. Further moderate falls about the central and Gippsland coasts. Cool with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Thursday 26 AprilIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, becoming scattered in the far east. Generally cool with light to moderate southwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDV10310
