MELBOURNE - Apr 19/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high pressure system near New Zealand is directing easterly winds into a trough near the New South Wales coast, resulting in widespread showers and rain areas east of the Divide. A weak pressure pattern over the state's west is accompanying generally fine conditions, although some unsettled weather near the Victorian border is associated with the presence of some cooler air in the upper atmosphere. During Friday the coastal trough will move away to the Tasman Sea while a cold front passes to the south. This will see most parts of the state experiencing fine weather through the weekend as a weak ridge of high pressure extends across the area. Late on Sunday patchy rain is likely to develop in the west ahead of the next approaching trough, shifting to eastern parts during Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas about the southern coast and tablelands, heavy at times near the coastal fringe with possible local thunder. Isolated showers about the western slopes and Riverina, tending scattered with thunderstorms near the Victorian border. Fine in the far west. Southeast to northeasterly winds near the coast, tending light and variable inland. Dangerous surf conditions on the coast.Friday 20 AprilEarly showers about the southern coast, clearing. The chance of showers about the southern inland and tablelands, mainly in the afternoon. Otherwise fine and partly cloudy. Areas of morning fog, mainly in the south and east. Light winds tending north to northeasterly on the coast in the afternoon. Dangerous surf conditions on the coast.Saturday 21 AprilThe chance of showers in the east, more likely about the southern coast, and the chance of a late shower or two in the far southwest. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Morning fog areas in the east. Light winds tending north to northeasterly on the coast in the afternoon.Sunday 22 AprilLight patchy rain developing in the west, extending to central and southeastern districts through the day, becoming more likely near the Victorian border. Fine elsewhere. Northeast to northwesterly winds, turning southwesterly in the west later.Monday 23 AprilPatchy rain in the west, extending to central and southeastern districts during the day. The chance of afternoon thunderstorms across parts of the south. Fine in the northeast. Northwest to northwesterly winds in the east, and southwesterly in the west. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Friday.Product IDN10031 Weather & Warnings Australia New South Wales Warnings Summary Forecasts Sydney Forecast NSW Forecast Area Map Observations Sydney Observations All NSW Observations Rainfall & River Conditions Victoria Queensland Western Australia South Australia Tasmania Australian Capital Territory Northern Territory Antarctic Global Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage Forecast Explorer™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Learn About Meteorology This page was created at 07:15 on Thursday 19 April 2012 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2012, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "www") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
