Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 18/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high [1038 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge through
Queensland. A surface trough lies off the southern Queensland coast. An upper
level low lies over inland New South Wales, and will move towards the south
during Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers over eastern districts. Scattered showers and isolated
storms about the Peninsula and Gulf Country districts. Fine and mostly clear
elsewhere. Moderate E to SE winds, fresh at times along the east tropical
coast.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers over eastern districts with possible thunderstorms in the
far southeast. Scattered showers and isolated storms about the Peninsula and
Gulf Country districts. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate E to SE winds,
fresh at times along the east tropical coast.
Forecast for Friday
A weak ridge will maintain a mostly moderate onshore flow and isolated
showers over the eastern districts. Meanwhile an upper level trough should
extend from New South Wales into the southern interior of Queensland, and may
produce some isolated storms over the southeast districts in the afternoon.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Peninsula and Gulf Country
districts. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
The ridge along the east coast of Queensland should weaken further, allowing
showers to clear the central coast region, and resulting in mainly isolated
showers over the southeast and northeast districts. Scattered showers and
isolated storms over the Peninsula and Gulf Country districts. Fine over the
remainder of the state.
Forecast for Sunday
The ridge along the east coast of Queensland will weaken further as a surface
trough moves through southwestern Queensland. An upper trough approaches the
southwest at the same time, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms
through the southwest and southern interior, spreading to rain at night.
Isolated showers contracting to the northern coastal areas, with scattered
showers and isolated thunderstorms about the Peninsula and Gulf Country
districts. Fine over the remainder of the state.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The surface and upper level trough will move towards eastern Queensland on
Monday and Tuesday, producing scattered showers and isolated storms from the
northwest to the southeast, and extending into the northeast tropics on
Wednesday. Scattered showers and isolated storms over the Peninsula district.
Fine and cooler southwest of the trough.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
