MELBOURNE - Apr 17/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1038 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the
east coast of Queensland. A surface trough lies off the southern Queensland
coast. An upper level low lies near the border over northeast New South Wales.
Another weak surface trough lies over the central and southeast Queensland
interior.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Scattered showers, patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms over southeast
districts. Mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms over the remaining
districts east of about Kowanyama to Charleville, tending scattered about Cape
York Peninsula. Fine in the west. Moderate E to SE winds, fresh at times along
the east tropical coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over southeast districts and the
northeast tropics. Generally isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over
central districts and the eastern Warrego and Maranoa. Fine in the west. Mostly
moderate E to SE winds, fresh at times along the east tropical coast.
Forecast for Thursday
The strong high over the Tasman Sea will move closer to New Zealand and
maintain a moist E to SE wind flow along Queensland's east coast. The upper
level low is expected to slip southwards over New South Wales, though it should
maintain enough instability to generate isolated showers and thunderstorms over
Queensland's southern and central districts, with possibly more widespread
activity about the southeast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will also
occur over the northern tropics, with more isolated activity expected over
central districts. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue in the
west.
Forecast for Friday
The upper low is expected to weaken as it continues slipping southwards,
though it will extend a new upper trough over the southern interior of
Queensland. The strong high near New Zealand will maintain an E to SE wind flow
and moist conditions through eastern and northern parts of the state. Showers
and isolated thunderstorms are expected over the eastern half of the state, as
well as over the southern interior and northern tropics. Fine conditions
continuing in the far west in a drier wind flow.
Forecast for Saturday
The strong high near New Zealand will maintain an E to SE wind flow and moist
conditions through eastern and northern parts of the state. The upper trough is
expected to move over southeast Queensland and continue to produce unstable
conditions with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in this region.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are also likely in the moist
conditions over the northeast tropics. Isolated showers over the central
interior. Fine in the west. Maximum temperatures tending above average in the
west and southern interior.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
A series of upper troughs will move east over southeastern Australia during
the outlook period. This will maintain unstable conditions over much of southern
and central Queensland with showers and thunderstorms expected. A moist onshore
wind flow will maintain showers and more isolated thunderstorms over the
tropics. Patchy thundery rain may affect the southwest of the state during
Sunday and Monday as the upper troughs move over that region. Maximum
temperatures tending near and above average in the west and south.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
