Warning Summary at issue time The Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters from Cape Melville to Cardwell has been cancelled. A Flood Warning is current for the Diamantina and Thomson Rivers and the Cooper Creek. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A broad trough is near stationary over the northwest Coral Sea. An upper trough is intensifying as it moves east over the interior of the state and will enter southeastern districts late tonight. An upper low will most likely form over northern New South Wales on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of Monday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the Maranoa and southern Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts, increasing to rain areas and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening with some moderate falls. Showers increasing on the southeast coast, with possible afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Scattered showers over the Central Coast and Capricornia districts. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern tropics, increasing to thundery rain areas with moderate falls on the eastern Peninsula coast. Isolated showers elsewhere over the east coast and through the eastern interior. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Warrego. Fine elsewhere. Moderate E to SE winds, fresh along the east tropical coast. Forecast for Tuesday Patchy rain, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the southeast coast and adjacent inland with moderate falls. Isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere southeast of about Gladstone to Charleville, increasing to scattered in the afternoon. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern tropics. Isolated showers elsewhere along the east coast and through the eastern interior. Fine in the west. Moderate E to SE winds, fresh along the east tropical coast. Forecast for Wednesday A strong high pressure system over the Tasman Sea will drive moderate to fresh and moist E'ly winds over eastern districts. The upper low will most likely lie near the southern inland border of Queensland, generating unstable conditions over southern districts east of Charleville and through the Capricornia with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms expected. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will also occur over the tropics north of about Townsville in a moist and unstable airmass. Isolated showers are expected over remaining areas of the tropics and central districts. Fine conditions will persist in the west. Forecast for Thursday The strong high over the Tasman Sea will move closer to New Zealand and maintain a moist E to SE wind flow along the east coast. The upper level low will most likely move south further into New South Wales, but maintain enough instability to generate isolated showers and thunderstorms over southern and central districts east of about Longreach, more scattered along the southeast coast and adjacent inland. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will also occur over the tropics, with more isolated activity expected over central districts. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue in the west. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The upper level low is expected to weaken as it continues slipping south towards Victoria. However, it will be followed by a series of upper troughs moving east over southeastern Australia. This will maintain unstable conditions over much of southern and central Queensland with showers and thunderstorms expected. A moist onshore wind flow will maintain showers over the tropics, with possible isolated thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday.
