Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 15/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure extends from New Zealand towards New South Wales while a cold front passes across the southern Tasman Sea. During Monday a trough will develop off the coast in response to an approaching upper-level feature, as another high moves across Tasmania to the east. This high is expected to strengthen during Tuesday, with the synoptic pattern then likely to remain relatively unchanged through much of the week as the high drifts slowly east. Through this time an easterly airstream will persist across New South Wales, directing showers onto the New South Wales coast. Most activity should be focused along coastal districts due to the presence of the trough, although some showers will penetrate further inland assisted by favourable conditions in the upper-atmosphere.
Forecast for the rest of SundayShowers in the northeast, mostly contracting to the coast overnight. Fine elsewhere. Northeast to northwest winds near the coast, tending light and variable inland.Monday 16 AprilLocal early fog patches in the east, mainly about the southern and central tablelands. Showers about the northern coast and ranges, becoming more widespread along the coastal fringe. Showers and possible thunderstorms extending to the slopes and plains in the afternoon. The chance of showers extending through the Hunter and central parts of the coast late in the day. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Northeast to southeasterly winds.Tuesday 17 AprilShowers about the coast and eastern tablelands, increasing to rain periods north from about Nowra. The chance of showers extending to the western slopes, mainly in the north during the afternoon. Possible thunderstorms over the northeast, chiefly afternoon.
