Weather Situation
A high [1037 hPa] over the Great Australian Bight is moving eastwards and
extend a strengthening ridge along the entire east coast of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Isolated showers about the north-east tropics. Fine elsewhere. Moderate S to
SE winds most areas becoming fresh to strong along parts of the southern coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will move only very slowly eastwards into Victoria. Isolated showers
will occur along the east coast and also over areas near the Gulf of
Carpentaria. These showers will tend to rain at times with some moderate falls
about the north tropical coast. Fine and mostly cool conditions elsewhere. Winds
will be mostly moderate S to SE tending fresh to strong at times along most of
the east coast south of Cairns. Temperatures remaining below average over most
of the interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will move into New South Wales and will maintain a firm ridge along
the east coast. So isolated showers will continue along most of the coast
tending to rain at times with some moderate to heavy falls about the north
tropical coast. Fine and mostly cool conditions elsewhere. Winds will be
moderate to fresh SE tending fresh to strong at times about the coast between
about Cooktown and Fraser Island. Temperatures remaining below average over most
of the interior.
Forecast for Friday
The high will move into the Tasman Sea and will maintain a firm ridge along
the east coast. So isolated showers will continue along most of the east coast
and will spread into the adjacent inland in the afternoon. These showers will
become scattered and tend to rain at times during the morning about the north
tropical coast. Fine conditions will continue elsewhere. Winds will be light to
moderate SE to E tending fresh to strong at times about the coast between about
Torres Strait and St Lawrence. An upper low over Central Australia may extend
some middle level cloud and thundery rain over the far west and southwest of the
state.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will move close to New Zealand but will maintain the ridge along the
east coast of Queensland. So isolated showers will continue in most east coast
districts and again spread into the adjacent inland in the afternoon. These
showers will become scattered about the north tropical coast. Some high cloud
with some thundery rain generated by a decaying upper trough will move across
the south-west of the state during the morning. Fine conditions will continue
elsewhere. Winds will be light to moderate SE to E tending fresh to strong at
times about the coast between about Torres Strait and Cardwell.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
A new upper trough will move into New South Wales on Sunday and into far
southern Queensland on Monday. As a result conditions will become unstable over
the south-east of the state. So showers along the southern coast will become
more scattered on Monday and will spread inland over the south-east interior and
eastern parts of the southern interior. On Tuesday, these showers may spread
even further westwards depending on the movement of the upper trough. Along the
remaining east coast stream showers will continue. Fine conditions will continue
elsewhere over the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
