MELBOURNE - Apr 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters from St Lawrence to Point Danger including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay for Tuesday. Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Great Australian Bight is moving eastwards and strengthening. A trough extended across inland Queensland and linked with a frontal system moving northwards along the New South Wales coast. This front will reach the St Lawrence area by late Tuesday and the Cairns areas area in a decaying mode by late Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of Monday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the central and south-east interior and the far southern coast. Isolated showers over parts of the east tropical coast and over far northern Cape York Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to E winds shifting N'ly over the south-east of the state. Cooler conditions over the south-west of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The high over the Great Australian Bight will continue to move eastwards while the frontal system will move northwards along the southern coast during the day. Isolated showers will occur over the eastern tropics with possible isolated thunderstorms over the far south-east tropics. Fine elsewhere. Winds mostly moderate to fresh S to SE becoming strong at times during the afternoon and evening along the southern coast. Cooler conditions over most southern and western areas of the state. Forecast for Wednesday The high will move only very slowly eastwards while losing some intensity. Isolated showers will occur along the east coast and also over areas near the Gulf of Carpentaria. These showers will tend to rain at times with some moderate falls about the north tropical coast. Fine and mostly cool conditions elsewhere. Winds will be mostly moderate S to SE becoming fresh to strong at times along most of the east coast south of Cairns. Forecast for Thursday The high will move into New South Wales and will maintain a firm ridge along the east coast. So isolated showers will continue along most of the coast tending to rain at times with some moderate to heavy falls about the north tropical coast. Fine and mostly cool conditions elsewhere. Winds will be moderate SE becoming fresh to strong at times about the coast between about Cooktown and Fraser Island. Forecast for Friday The high will move into the Tasman Sea and will maintain a firm ridge along the east coast. So isolated showers will continue along most of the east coast tending to rain at times during the morning about the north tropical coast. Fine conditions elsewhere. Winds will be light to moderate to fresh SE to E becoming fresh to strong at times about the coast between about Torres Strait and Bowen. An upper low over Central Australia amy push some middle cloud and thundery rain into the far south-west. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The upper low over central Australia will move into the southern interior of the state on Saturday but in a weakening mode. So at best only some high cloud will move into the southern and south-east interior. The high over the Tasman sea will continue moving eastwards and will continue to weaken as a new high moves into the Great australian Bight. So a ridge will be maintained along the east coast and will direct moderate to fresh SE winds and isolated showers onto most of the eat coast. Fine conditions will continue over the interior with temperatures being close to average. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
