Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along the east Queensland
coast. Another high over the Great Australian Bight is pushing dry air into the
Channel Country, and a weak surface trough eastwards across Queensland's
southern and central interior.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Showers and isolated thunderstorms over the central and southern interior,
extending into the southeast during the afternoon and evening. Fine elsewhere
except for some isolated showers over the northeast and far northern coasts and
some isolated showers and storms over the central coast. Light to moderate SE
to NE winds. Cooler moderate S to SW winds over the southwest, spreading into
the northwest and over the southern interior during the day.
Forecast for Tuesday
A high in the Great Australian Bight is expected to push relatively cool, dry
air over the southern districts, resulting in fine and sunny conditions. The
high should also push a strong southerly change along Queensland's southeast
coast. An upper level is likely to move a little north and east over southern
Queensland, and combine with some lingering humid air to produce some isolated
showers and storms over the Central Coast, and parts of the central interior,
Mainly isolated showers are expected to continue over the northeast tropics and
the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine over the remaining western districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high is expected to move over southeast Australia, and extend strong and
gusty S to SE winds further up Queensland's east coast, reaching the North
Tropical Coast late in the day. The associated onshore flow should produce
showers over the far eastern districts, and also over the Northern Goldfields
and parts of the Central Highlands. Showers should be more widespread and tend
to rain at times about the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands. Fine with below
average temperatures over the remainder of the state.
Forecast for Thursday
A firm ridge should remain along the entire east coast of Queensland with
fresh to strong SE winds and showers, more widespread and tending to rain with
moderate falls about the North Tropical Coast. Just the chance of some isolated
afternoon showers about the Gulf Country, and fine over the remainder of the
state. Temperatures mainly near, or a little below average.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
An upper level low over central Australia may produce some showers and
possibly some thunderstorms over western districts on Friday, before moving east
and weakening on Saturday. Meanwhile a high over southeast Australia should
maintain a firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland with at least moderate
to fresh SE winds, stronger over the northern tropics. The associated onshore
flow should push at least isolated showers over the east coast and nearby inland
areas, more widespread about the North Tropical Coast and ranges. Temperatures
remaining near or slightly below average.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
