Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along the east Queensland
coast, while a near stationary low level trough lies over western Queensland. An
upper level trough is expected to move over New South Wales and approach
southern Queensland during Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers about the east coast and Peninsula districts, tending
scattered about the Capricornia coast during the evening. Showers and isolated
thunderstorms about the western Gulf Country and extending from the northwest to
over the central and southern interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds,
shifting moderate S'ly over the southwest.
Forecast for Monday
Showers and isolated thunderstorms over the central and southern interior,
extending into the southeast during the afternoon and evening. Chance of
isolated showers or thunderstorms over the northwest and western Gulf Country.
Isolated showers about the east coast, tending to scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms about the Central Coast region. Fine over the far southwest. Light
to moderate SE to NE winds. Cooler moderate S to SW winds over the southwest,
spreading into the northwest and over the southern interior during the day.
Forecast for Tuesday
A high west of Victoria should push a strong southerly change along
Queensland's southeast coast, extending onto the Capricornia coast in the
evening. The associated onshore flow should produce some showers about the
southern coast, while generally isolated showers are expected to continue over
the northeast tropics. An upper level over southern Queensland is likely to move
a little north and east, and combine with some remaining humid air to produce
some isolated showers and storms over the Central Coast, Central Highlands and
Capricornia districts. Mainly fine over the northwest, though there is just the
chance of some isolated showers or storms in the region. Fine and dry over the
southern districts in a cooler than average southerly wind flow.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high is expected to move over Victoria, and extend strong and gusty S to
SE winds up to the North Tropical Coast. The associated onshore flow should
produce showers over the far eastern districts, and also over the Northern
Goldfields and parts of the Central Highlands. Showers more widespread about the
tropical coast and adjacent interior, with the chance of isolated thunderstorms.
Fine and cool over the remainder of the state except for the chance of some
isolated showers over the far northwest. Another upper level trough is expected
to move over southern Queensland while an upper level low will develop over
central Australia.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper level low over central Australia may encourage a surface trough and
associated showers and thunderstorms to form over Queensland's western
districts. Otherwise, a firm ridge will extend along the entire east Queensland
coast with fresh to strong SE winds and showers. The showers will be more
widespread about the North Tropical Coast, possibly tending to rain at times
with some moderate falls. Fine over the central and southern interior.
Temperatures generally a little below the April average.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The upper level low is expected to continue to produce showers and possible
thunderstorms over western districts on Friday before moving east and weakening
on Saturday, reducing the potential for any activity in the west from then on.
Meanwhile a high over southeast Australia should maintain a firm ridge along the
east coast of Queensland with at least moderate to fresh SE winds, stronger over
the northern tropics. The associated onshore flow should push at least isolated
showers over the east coast and adjacent inland areas, more widespread about the
North Tropical Coast and ranges. Temperatures generally near or slightly below
the April average.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
