Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east
Queensland coast, while a near stationary low level trough lies over western
Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers about the east coast and Peninsula districts, tending
scattered about the Wide Bay and Capricornia coast. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms about the western Gulf Country and extending from the northwest to
over the central and southern interior. Above average temperatures across the
southern interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds.
Forecast for Monday
A weak upper level trough should lie over the southern districts whilst a
weak surface trough is expected to move slowly eastwards across the southern and
central interior. Mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected near
and to the east of the surface trough over the central interior, southern
interior and over parts of the state's southeast. Mainly isolated showers over
the remaining east coast and Cape York Peninsula, more widespread about the
Central Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf Country. Fine
over the far southwest in a milder S'ly wind flow.
Forecast for Tuesday
A high west of Victoria should push a strong southerly change along
Queensland's southeast coast, extending onto the Capricornia coast in the
evening. The associated onshore flow should produce some scattered showers about
the southern coast, while generally isolated showers are expected to continue
over the northern tropics. The upper level trough may move a little northwards,
and combine with some remaining humid air to produce some isolated showers and
storms over the Central Coast, Central Highlands and Capricornia districts.
Mainly fine over the northwest, though there is just the chance of some isolated
showers or storms in the region. Fine and dry over the southern districts in a
cooler than average southerly wind flow.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high is expected to move over Victoria, and extend strong and gusty S to
SE winds up to the North Tropical Coast. The associated onshore flow should
produce showers over the far eastern districts, and also over the Northern
Goldfields and parts of the Central Highlands. Showers more widespread about
the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, and just the chance of some local
thunder. Fine, relatively mild and dry over the remainder of the state except
for the chance of some isolated showers over the far northwest.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
An upper level low over central Australia may encourage a surface trough and
associated showers and storms to form over Queensland's western districts from
Thursday, however a moderate to high level of uncertainty is associated with
that forecast. The upper level low is expected to weaken on Saturday, reducing
the potential for any activity in the west from then on. Meanwhile a high over
southeast Australia should maintain a firm ridge along the east coast of
Queensland with at least moderate to fresh SE winds. The associated onshore flow
should push at least isolated showers over the east coast and adjacent inland
areas, more widespread about the North Tropical Coast and ranges. Temperatures
generally near or slightly below the April average.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
