Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east
Queensland coast, while a near stationary low level trough lies over western
Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers along the east tropical coast, Cape York Peninsula and the
Northwest district. Showers and thunderstorms about the western Gulf Country and
the central and southern interior. Mostly moderate SE to NE winds.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers about the east coast and Peninsula districts, tending
scattered about the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay and Capricornia coasts. Isolated
showers and thunderstorms about the western Gulf Country and the central and
southern interior. A warm to hot day over the southern interior. Mostly moderate
SE to NE winds.
Forecast for Monday
An upper level trough is expected to move over New South Wales and approach
southern Queensland late in the day, whilst the surface trough is expected to
move slowly eastwards across the southern and central interior. Showers and
thunderstorms are expected near and to the east of the surface trough from the
Gulf Country to the southeast, though the activity should be mainly isolated due
to reasonably limited humidity levels. Isolated showers over the remaining east
coast and Cape York Peninsula, tending scattered about the Central Coast.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the western Gulf Country.
Fine over the far southwest in a milder S'ly wind flow.
Forecast for Tuesday
A high west of Victoria should push a rapidly strengthening ridge along the
southern Queensland coast, with fresh to strong and gusty S to SE winds
developing during the day, extending onto the Capricornia coast at night. The
associated onshore flow should result in scattered showers about the southern
coast, while generally isolated showers are expected to continue over the
northern tropics. The upper level trough is expected to move over southern
Queensland, and begin to form an upper level low over central Australia. The
inland trough is expected to extend from the Gulf Country down to the Wide Bay
and Burnett, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms near and to its
northeast over the central interior, as well as the Capricornia, Wide Bay and
Burnett districts. More isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected over the
northwest and Gulf Country districts. Fine over the Channel Country. Daytime
temperatures cooler than the April average in the southwest.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high is expected to move over Victoria, and extend a firm ridge with
showers and fresh to strong and gusty S to SE winds extending north along the
tropical east Queensland coast. The inland trough is expected to retreat west
over the interior, with showers and isolated thunderstorms expected over the
central and tropical coasts, extending west across the interior to the far west
and northwest of the state as instability increases due to the upper level low
over central Australia. Isolated showers are expected to continue over the
southeast and far northern tropics, tending to scattered showers about the North
Tropical Coast due to the fresher SE airflow.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The upper level low over central Australia combined with the surface trough
over the far west should produce showers and thunderstorms over the west of the
state, decreasing on Saturday as the upper level low weakens. Meanwhile a high
over southeast Australia should maintain a firm ridge along the east coast of
Queensland with moderate to fresh SE winds, strong over most tropical waters.
The associated onshore flow should push at least isolated showers over the east
coast and adjacent inland areas, more widespread about the North Tropical Coast
and ranges. Temperatures generally near or slightly below the April average.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
