Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the south-east Tasman Sea will maintain a stable weather pattern
over most of Queensland into the weekend. Temperatures will remain above the
April average over the Queensland interior into the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Fine over most of the state. Only isolated showers over northern Cape York
Peninsula and through Torres Strait. As well, isolated showers will develop
along the exposed southern coast. A warm to hot day over much of the state,
particularly through western districts. Powerful surf caused by large E to SE
swells will occur along the coast south from Fraser Island. Light to moderate S
to SE winds along the east coast, fresh at times south of Fraser Island. Light
to moderate mostly SE to NE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers will occur along the far southern Queensland coast and also
over far northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Winds will tend
more SE'ly along remaining parts of the east coast with the increasing moisture
resulting in isolated showers developing. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere
over the state with temperatures remaining well above average through western
districts and the southern and southeast interior. The southern Queensland coast
will continue to be affected by powerful surf.
Forecast for Friday
The moderate to fresh SE wind flow will persist along much of the east coast
of Queensland with isolated showers occurring in exposed coastal areas.
Afternoon cloud will develop through the central interior with the chance of
isolated light showers developing. Isolated showers will also develop about the
far northwest of the state due to increasing low level moisture. Temperatures
will continue to be above average across much of the interior. The southern
Queensland coast will continue to be affected by powerful surf.
Forecast for Saturday
The ridge along the east coast will begin to weaken as a frontal system moves
into the Tasman Sea. As a result winds will ease along the southern coast with
any stream showers contracting to north of about the Sarina area. The inland
trough will move eastwards as ridging from a high over the Great Australian
Bight spreads across the south-west of the state. Fine conditions will occur
across the interior with warm to hot conditions continuing in most areas. The
powerful surf along the far southern coast will relax.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The surface trough will relax on Sunday and then move eastwards on Monday and
Tuesday as a large high moves across waters south of the Great Australian Bight.
As a result firm ridging will develop along most of the east coast during late
Monday and Tuesday. Winds along the east coast will freshen with some strong
winds likely to develop on Tuesday about the southern coast. With the onset of
the southerly winds showers will again develop about exposed parts of the
southern coast while continuing along the far northern east coast of Queensland.
With the onset of the southerly winds, conditions will generally cool across
most of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
