web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over eastern Australia will maintain a stable weather pattern over
Queensland for much of this week. Temperatures will remain above the April
average over the Queensland interior into the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Fine over most of the state, only isolated showers over Cape York Peninsula
and Torres Strait. Increasing E to SE swells along the coast south of Sandy
Cape. Light to moderate SW to SE winds along the east coast, fresh at times
south of Fraser Island. Light to moderate SW to NW winds over the southern
interior, tending SE to NE over the remainder.
Forecast for Wednesday
Fine over most of the state, only isolated showers over northern Cape York
Peninsula and Torres Strait and some isolated showers also developing along the
exposed southern coast. A warm to hot day over much of the state, particularly
through western districts. Powerful surf south of Sandy Cape caused by large E
to SE swells. Light to moderate S to SE winds along the east coast, fresh at
times south of Fraser Island. Light to moderate mostly SE to NE winds over the
interior.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers will occur along the far southern Queensland coast and
adjacent inland and also over far northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres
Strait. Winds will tend more SE'ly along remaining parts of the east coast with
the increasing moisture resulting in isolated showers developing. Afternoon
cloud will develop over the southern central interior though little or no rain
is expected. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere over the state with
temperatures remaining well above average through western districts and the
southeast interior. The southern Queensland coast will continue to be affected
by powerful surf.
Forecast for Friday
The moderate to fresh SE wind flow will persist along the east coast of
Queensland with isolated showers occurring, particularly on the north tropical
coast. Afternoon cloud will again develop through the central interior, though
conditions will remain mostly fine with just the chance of isolated light
showers. Isolated showers will also develop about the far northwest of the state
due to increasing low level moisture. Temperatures will continue to be above
average across much of the interior. The southern Queensland coast will continue
to be affected by powerful surf.
Forecast for Saturday
A ridge of high pressure will continue to dominate weather over the state
while a trough will move east over the Great Australian Bight. A drier S to SW
wind flow will extend over the southeast coast with warm and sunny conditions
expected. Isolated showers will continue over the northern tropics, particularly
along the north tropical coast. Mostly fine and warm conditions will persist
over the interior of the state with just the chance of isolated showers over the
southern central interior.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The trough will move east over southeastern Australia followed by a new high
entering the Great Australian Bight. The trough will extend into southern
Queensland and move east, most likely contracting off the southeast coast late
Monday or early Tuesday. Ridging from the new high and a fresh S to SE wind flow
will then extend north along the east coast. The trough may generate some
isolated showers and thunderstorms over southern and central districts with its
passage. A cooler S'ly wind flow will extend over western districts in the wake
of the trough. Isolated showers will continue over the far northern tropics.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
