MELBOURNE - Apr 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over eastern Australia will maintain a stable weather pattern over Queensland for much of this week. Temperatures will remain above the April average over the Queensland interior into the weekend. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Fine over most of the state, only isolated showers over Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Increasing E to SE swells along the coast south of Sandy Cape. Light to moderate SW to SE winds along the east coast, fresh at times south of Fraser Island. Light to moderate SW to NW winds over the southern interior, tending SE to NE over the remainder. Forecast for Wednesday Fine over most of the state, only isolated showers over northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait and some isolated showers also developing along the exposed southern coast. A warm to hot day over much of the state, particularly through western districts. Powerful surf south of Sandy Cape caused by large E to SE swells. Light to moderate S to SE winds along the east coast, fresh at times south of Fraser Island. Light to moderate mostly SE to NE winds over the interior. Forecast for Thursday Isolated showers will occur along the far southern Queensland coast and adjacent inland and also over far northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Winds will tend more SE'ly along remaining parts of the east coast with the increasing moisture resulting in isolated showers developing. Afternoon cloud will develop over the southern central interior though little or no rain is expected. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere over the state with temperatures remaining well above average through western districts and the southeast interior. The southern Queensland coast will continue to be affected by powerful surf. Forecast for Friday The moderate to fresh SE wind flow will persist along the east coast of Queensland with isolated showers occurring, particularly on the north tropical coast. Afternoon cloud will again develop through the central interior, though conditions will remain mostly fine with just the chance of isolated light showers. Isolated showers will also develop about the far northwest of the state due to increasing low level moisture. Temperatures will continue to be above average across much of the interior. The southern Queensland coast will continue to be affected by powerful surf. Forecast for Saturday A ridge of high pressure will continue to dominate weather over the state while a trough will move east over the Great Australian Bight. A drier S to SW wind flow will extend over the southeast coast with warm and sunny conditions expected. Isolated showers will continue over the northern tropics, particularly along the north tropical coast. Mostly fine and warm conditions will persist over the interior of the state with just the chance of isolated showers over the southern central interior. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The trough will move east over southeastern Australia followed by a new high entering the Great Australian Bight. The trough will extend into southern Queensland and move east, most likely contracting off the southeast coast late Monday or early Tuesday. Ridging from the new high and a fresh S to SE wind flow will then extend north along the east coast. The trough may generate some isolated showers and thunderstorms over southern and central districts with its passage. A cooler S'ly wind flow will extend over western districts in the wake of the trough. Isolated showers will continue over the far northern tropics.
