Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 2/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over eastern Australia will maintain a stable weather pattern over
Queensland for much of this week. Temperatures will remain above the April
average over the Queensland interior into the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Fine over most of the state. Only isolated showers over Cape York Peninsula
and Torres Strait and just the chance of light morning showers on Fraser Island.
A hot day over the interior of the state, particularly through western
districts. E to SE swells will gradually increase along the coast south of Sandy
Cape during the day. Light to moderate SW to SE winds along the east coast,
fresh at times south of Fraser Island. Light to moderate SW to NW winds over the
southern interior, tending SE to NE over the remainder. A High to Very High Fire
Danger in the Darling Downs and Granite Belt district.
Forecast for Wednesday
Fine conditions will continue over most of the state under the influence of a
ridge. Isolated showers will develop along the far southern exposed coast and
islands as the flow shifts more onshore. Isolated showers will continue over far
northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Temperatures will remain
well above average through most of the interior, particularly in western
districts. Large swells about the coast south of Sandy Cape will produce
powerful surf.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers will continue along the far southern Queensland coast and
also over far northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Winds will tend
more SE'ly along remaining parts of the east coast with the increasing moisture
resulting in isolated showers developing. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere
over the state with temperatures remaining well above average through western
districts and the southeast interior. The southern Queensland coast will
continue to be affected by powerful surf.
Forecast for Friday
The moderate to fresh SE wind flow will persist along the east coast of
Queensland with isolated showers occurring in most areas. Moisture will continue
to increase about the Highlands area and will result in isolated afternoon
showers developing. Isolated showers will also develop about the far north-west
of the state due to increasing low level moisture. Temperatures will continue to
be above average across most western and southern areas of the state. The
southern Queensland coast will continue to be affected by powerful surf.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The high over the southeast Tasman Sea will slowly decay over the weekend as
a trough moves east over southeastern Australia and a new high moves across the
Great Australian Bight. So from Sunday onwards cooler conditions will return to
much of inland Queensland. Ridging from the high will also spread northwards
along the east coast of Queensland from as early as Sunday. With the onset of
this ridging winds along the east coast will freshen and shift to the S to SE.
Isolated showers will accompany these fresh winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
