MELBOURNE - Mar 31/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high southeast of New Zealand extended a ridge across most of Queensland. A low pressure system is located over the north-east Coral Sea and is expected to move south-east away from the Queensland coast. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Isolated showers along the east coast and over northern Cape York Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds along the east coast with light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Monday A ridge will persist across most of Queensland and will continue maintain fine conditions in most areas. Isolated showers will continue about parts of the exposed east coast and over northern Cape York Peninsula. Minimum temperatures will again be near to below average. Forecast for Tuesday The ridge will continue to extend across most of Queensland and maintain fine conditions in most areas. Dry low level winds will push onto most coastal areas of Queensland. As a result, isolated showers will become confined to northern Cape York Peninsula. Minimum temperatures will continue to below average while daytime temperatures will be slightly above average. Forecast for Wednesday An upper trough will move westwards across the Tasman Sea and destabilise conditions about the far south-east coast. As well, the high over the southern Tasman Sea will strengthen a little and direct moist SE winds onto the southern coast. So showers will increase along the southern coast with freshening winds. Isolated showers will continue over far northern Cape York Peninsula. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The high over the south-east Tasman Sea will persist in the area until the weekend at least. As a result moderate to fresh SE winds and showers will continue along the southern coast and extend to most other coastal areas. Showers will continue over far northern Cape York Peninsula. Fine conditions will continue over most of the interior with temperatures at night and during the morning near to below average. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
