Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 28/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between
Bowen and Burnett Heads.
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak monsoon trough extends from northern Torres Strait eastwards to a
broad area of low pressure in the northern Coral Sea. A high over the Tasman Sea
extends a firm ridge along much of the east Queensland coast, and dry and stable
air over the interior.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated to scattered showers along the east Queensland coast and nearby
inland areas. Scattered showers through far northern Cape York Peninsula and
Torres Strait. Fine conditions remaining over the interior, with temperatures
remaining generally below the monthly average. Moderate to fresh SE winds, gusty
at times along the east coast.
Forecast for Friday
The combination of a ridge along the east coast, and the broad low over the
northern Coral Sea will maintain fresh to strong S to SE winds along the east
coast of Queensland. Isolated showers will continue about the east coast and far
north, tending scattered over the southeast due to the passage of a weak upper
trough. The low in the Coral Sea may deepen, but will remain too far offshore to
have any direct influence on Queensland's weather. Remaining fine inland with
temperatures remaining generally below the monthly average.
Forecast for Saturday
The combination of the weak ridge persisting over eastern Queensland and the
large low or tropical cyclone over the Coral Sea will provide a southerly
airflow into Queensland, with relatively dry and stable air penetrating well
into the tropics. This should result in only isolated showers along exposed
parts of the central and south coasts, with a few showers over the northern
Peninsula. Fine conditions will persist over the interior with temperatures
remaining below the seasonal average, particularly in the morning.
Forecast for Sunday
A weak ridge along the southeast coast of Queensland, and the dry air over
the interior, will maintain fine conditions over most of the state, except for
some isolated showers about the east coast and over the far northern parts of
Cape York Peninsula and the Torres Strait islands.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high will remain to the east of New Zealand as a new high enters the
Tasman Sea. The low or tropical cyclone over the Coral Sea will remain well
offshore of the Queensland coast. S to SE winds should gradually decrease along
the east coast during the outlook period, becoming light by about Tuesday.
Isolated showers will contract northwards as the onshore winds ease. An
amplifying upper trough and surface trough may lead to the redevelopment of
showers and the chance of a thunderstorm or two about the southeast on
Wednesday. Fine and cool conditions will continue over the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
